Questions & Answers

Answers to the questions we hear most often. This is general information; for your situation, contact us.

How much do your services cost?

It depends on what you need and how complex it is. After a short introductory call we tell you the scope and the estimated fee before any work starts. If we learn something new along the way that changes the work, the fee may change, and we will let you know.

What documents do I need for my tax return?

Start with our tax document checklist. You can print it or save it as a PDF and tick off what you have. If something is missing, we will tell you.

Do I have to come to the office?

No. You can meet us at the office in Feasterville-Trevose or work with us fully remotely. Documents are exchanged through our secure client portal, and we work with clients across the U.S.

Do you speak Russian?

Yes. We work in English and Russian.

What if I cannot file by April 15?

You can request an extension (Form 4868), which moves the filing deadline for most individuals to October 15. An extension gives more time to file, not to pay: any tax you owe is still due by April 15, so we estimate it and help you pay on time.

I received a letter from the IRS. What should I do?

Do not ignore it: most letters have a response deadline. Do not call numbers from unexpected calls or texts. Send us a copy through the client portal or call us, and we will explain what it means and reply for you. See Tax Resolution.

Can you represent me before the IRS?

Yes. As CPAs we can represent you before the IRS in any matter, including audits, collections, and appeals, with a signed power of attorney (Form 2848).

Do I need to report my bank accounts abroad?

Generally yes, if you are a U.S. citizen, green card holder, or U.S. resident for tax purposes and the total of your foreign accounts was over $10,000 at any time during the year. That requires an FBAR report, and you may also need Form 8938. See International Tax.

I am self-employed. Do I need to pay estimated taxes?

Usually yes, if you expect to owe $1,000 or more for the year. Payments are made four times a year; the dates are in our tax calendar. We calculate the amounts for you.

Should my business be an LLC or an S corporation?

It depends on your profit, your plans, and your state. An S corporation election can lower self-employment tax once the business earns enough, but it adds payroll and extra filings. We run the numbers with you before you decide. See Business Formation.

How long should I keep tax records?

Keep supporting documents for at least three years after you file, and longer in some cases, for example records for property until three years after you sell it. We recommend keeping copies of your tax returns permanently.

How can I pay my invoice?

By credit or debit card, ACH bank transfer, or Zelle. See Pay an Invoice.
